Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen was an athlete of natural talent who loved to play tough sports games. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. It was evident by her winning pretty much every Feis award for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, where she explored her love of performing in classical and opera. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after seeing an Maureen screen examination. He became captivated by her beautiful eyes. Prior to casting her as a character in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton and his partner, Erich Pommer, changed her name changed from Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" which was a little smaller last name to fit the marquee. Maureen FitzSimons' subsequent movie (The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939-1939) was to be filmed by RKO Pictures in America under an agreement with Laughton. The film's epic scope had a huge success, and the contract of Maureen was purchased by Laughton by RKO. Maureen Laughton had appeared featured in two major motion films by the time she was 19.
